A Level study and the love of learning

Sixth form Curriculum

Learn without limits at Kneller Hall School, with a curriculum shaped by personal interests and university applications.

Kneller Hall Sixth Form combines academic rigour with the opportunity to broaden our pupils’ horizons, offering them the chance to develop the skills they will need to succeed in their chosen fields. Our small class sizes and highly motivated teaching staff ensure that lessons are dynamic, stretching and inspirational, with progress regularly monitored throughout the two-year programme and with appropriate personal targets set.

Choosing your subjects

We want our older pupils to feel excited about the subjects they have chosen at A Level, to develop the ability to learn with a greater degree of independence than they may have done so far and to find genuine passions in the topics they study. Hard work, discretionary effort and strong values are central to the way we ask the pupils to approach all aspects of their time in the Sixth Form, and we also want them to enjoy themselves and make the most of everything that is on offer.

The subjects you actually enjoy. Two years is a long time to spend on something chosen for the wrong reason, and enjoyment is the strongest single predictor of a good grade.

Some degrees require specific A Levels. Our Degree Information guidance sets out which subjects are required or preferred for the most common courses.

If you already have a profession in mind, work backwards from it. Some routes are more prescriptive than the degree alone suggests.

A minimum of seven GCSE passes at grade 6 or above, including English Language and Mathematics, with grade 7 in the subjects to be studied at A Level.

More than A Levels

Sixth Form Electives

In addition to the A Level programme, all our pupils follow the taught programme for the Extended Project Qualification, and many go on to complete it. Alongside this, or instead, they can choose from a range of electives that build practical skills and confidence beyond the curriculum.

Languages for Business

A Level 2 Certificate in Languages for Business, in French or Spanish, giving students practical language skills for the workplace.

Peter Jones Business Course

A hands-on introduction to enterprise, helping students develop the business thinking and entrepreneurial skills valued by universities and employers.

Societies and Outreach

Students run their own societies and clubs for younger pupils, and support the local community through a reading scheme with Year 4 pupils at local primary schools.

Student voices

“Teachers are ready to support me at every academic milestone.”

Fatima (Economics, Sociology, Business Studies)

Your Future Begins Here

University guidance

We invest seriously in university guidance. Every Sixth Former receives dedicated, personalised support through the UCAS process: researching and shortlisting options, writing personal statements, preparing for interviews and handling offers. We have strong relationships with admissions teams at leading universities across the UK and internationally, and a track record of supporting pupils into highly competitive programmes.

be your best

The Kneller Laureate in the Sixth Form

The Kneller Laureate continues through Years 12 and 13. It reflects not just academic achievement but the full breadth of a pupil’s development: a rich, personal record that supports university applications, early careers and the transition to adult life.

Set An Example

Leadership and responsibility

Sixth Formers are the senior members of the Kneller Hall School community and we treat them accordingly. They take on leadership roles as House Captains, mentors, society leaders and organisers. These responsibilities develop the maturity, soft skills and sense of purpose that universities and employers look for in the young people they want to shape the future.

Student voices

“Teachers have bridged the gap between GCSE and A Level… instilled in me a love for my subjects.”

Jack (Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Physics)
